Hey,
I’m John T. March, author of the upcoming novel The Silent Season, where I explore the question: Can one save the world without damning himself? The story leans into themes of identity, violence, and moral ambiguity, wrapped in a neo-noir aesthetic with bursts of action and moments of reflection.
An English-speaking Romanian writer, my real name is Ion Tudor Marciu, which, I’ll admit, isn’t the easiest to pronounce in English, hence the pen name. If you’re curious, a close approximation is “yawn too-door mar-chew”. See what I mean?
Before The Silent Season, I wrote stage plays and novellas in my native Romanian. This novel is my first work in English. Not to worry though, if you enjoy my voice here, you’ll enjoy the book.
I set out to write The Silent Season as a fun action novel, but it took on a life of its own, and ended up rendered in blood, memory, and uneasy silence instead. I don’t glamorize violence, nor do I condone it in the real world, but I do believe in confronting it honestly in a work of fiction.
I started this blog to share short fiction and fragments, bite-size glimpses of my voice before I ask you to commit to a full novel. The plan is simple in theory, if not in execution: to look at things in interesting ways, and make time melt a little as you explore them with me.
I also blog about my process, my progress with editing and publishing the book, and any insights or challenges.
